Gary Dean Johnson was born June 16, 1949 in Benton Harbor, MI to Eddie Johnson Sr. and Mae Chester (Dolly) Johnson. A happy child Gary grew up in a large, loving family and community. At the young age of six, Gary accepted Christ and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, MI. Gary Dean Johnson was born June 16, 1949 in Benton Harbor, MI to Eddie Johnson Sr. and Mae Chester (Dolly) Johnson. A happy child Gary grew up in a large, loving family and community. At the young age of six, Gary accepted Christ and was baptized at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, MI. Attending Benton Harbor Public Schools Gary graduated in 1969 from Benton Harbor High School. In October of that same year, he was drafted into the US Army, and served three years, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his discharge, he returned to Benton Harbor until he relocated to Ann Arbor in 1975. He was employed in the food industry until retirement. He enjoyed fishing, University of Michigan football, and old western movies. Gary had a quiet humor and steady kindness that made a lasting impression on those who were blessed to cross paths with him.

Proceeding Gary in death were his parents, his long time companion Betty Bekaert, 7 brothers and 6 sisters. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Brandy Murray, of Okemos, MI and siblings: Pauline Hardy, Leslie G. Moon, Oliver (Angela) Johnson, of Ann Arbor, MI and Jethro E. Johnson of Kalamazoo, MI as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family. All are invited to honor his memory at a graveside memorial service at Fort Custer National cemetery in Augusta, MI on Thursday August 17th 2017 at 1:30 p.m. Please share a memory of Gary with his family at his on line guest book.
