Bachman, Sylvia 9/18/1918 - 11/18/2016 Sylvia Bachman, a long-time resident of Ann Arbor, passed away peacefully at the age of 98 on Friday the 18th of November. Born in 1918 in Flushing, New York to Herman Ashnoff and Anna Meshirer Ashnoff, Sylvia spent time in Trenton, NJ; Cincinnati, OH; Dallas, TX; N. Miami, FL, and Ann Arbor. Sylvia was always driven, meeting her husband while working as an airplane inspector during World War II. During her time in Cincinnati, she volunteered with inner city children, and together with her husband, she enabled her daughter to fulfill her dream of studying in France. Her deep love for her husband, as well as her endless encouragement for her granddaughters to have successful futures, is her legacy. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Carole Wolkan (Joe), granddaughters Annick (Nathan) and Hilary, as well as two nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Bachman (d 11/1/2009), and by her brother Lowell (d 01/13/90). A celebration of her life will be held November 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor. Donations in her name can be made to Housing Families (www.housingfamilies.org), Planned Parenthood (www.plannedparenthood.org), or and environmental organization of your choice.
